The invention relates to an apparatus, especially a beater wheel mill, for the preparation of a powdery fuel for boilers of thermal power stations. The apparatus contains a beater wheel (1) which is accommodated in a housing (2), a dust delivery duct (3) connected to the housing (2), situated in a plane which is at right angles to the axis of rotation of the beater wheel (1), and having a tapering (4) and a widening (5) section, a means for the separation of the incompletely ground material from the finished material, and a dust duct (7) for finished material and a dust duct (8) for the return of the incompletely ground material for repeated milling. The innovation is that the means for the separation of the incompletely ground material from finished material is embodied as a V-shaped separating metal sheet (6) with its vertex (9) directed towards the beater wheel (1). The separating metal sheet (6) is arranged such that a plane which runs through its vertex (9) and through a transition line of the tapering section (4) into the widening section (5) is parallel to the axis of rotation of the beater wheel (1), or parallel to this axis and inclined in a radial direction at an angle of +/-20 DEG . <IMAGE>
