PURPOSE:To judge the occurrence of knocking by using the same judging level as that of the initial period after the usage for long years, by judging the occurrence of the knocking based on the learned background level after the initial running period has elapsed. CONSTITUTION:In an ROM38 of an electronic control circuit 34, the map of a constant Ki corresponding to the number of rotation of an engine, which is specified for each cylinder, is stored in advance. Whether a vehicle is in the initial running stage or not, i.e., whether a running distance KM is below specified value (e.g., 1,000km) or not is judged. When the vehicle has exceeded the initial running stage, a background level b1 corresponding to the present number of rotation N of the engine is obtained by interpolation from background levels X and Y, which are stored in the map addresses between which the present number of rotation N of the engine is stored. Said level B1 is made to be a background level (b) for obtained a judging level. The level (b) for the ignited cylinder (i) is multiplied by the constant Ki and the judging level Kib is obtained. The judging level Kib and a peak value (a) is compared. When the peak value (a) exceeds the judging level Kib, it is judged that the knocking is generated. |
