PURPOSE:To obtain a detecting liquid by which the leakage of lubricating oil or fuel due to the cracks of an engine or the like or the poor condition of a seal can be seen without causing a fire, an explosion nor affecting the maleffect to the human body and the environment, by dispersing uniformly fine power such as talc in a solvent consisting essentially of water incorporated with surface-active agent. CONSTITUTION:As a solid component, talc, alumina or the like having 1mu <= grain diameter is used so as to invade easily into tiny cracks. To make the dispersion of the powder to a solvent uniform, to make the permeation of the solvent into the cracks easy, and to promote drying of water according to the temp. of a machine to be measured, a proper quantity of alcohol is added to the solvent consisting essentially of water incorporated with surface-active agent to make a detecting liquid. If it is necessary for anti-corrosiveness of a metal, it is possible to make a liquid leakage detecting liquid in which a rust preventive agent (NaNO2 or the like) is dissolved. The detecting liquid is applied on the surface of a machine by spraying or the like. If there is no crack or the poor condition of a seal, dried white powder is formed on the surface, however, on the part having leakage of oil or the like from the inside, wet white powder adheres to the surface and is not scattered easily. Thus, the leakage due to the tiny cracks or the like can be seen surely. |
