A seal for pipe joints consisting of a profile (10) that can be attached round the joints, or pipe section in the immediate proximity, and which have dovetail grooves (11), or similar, in the inside and which are filled with a plastic sealing compound. The profile (10) can be tightened around the pipes and the joint, via a metal plate wrap (21) with flanged edges(22),for forming a channel in which the profile (10) is placed. When the profile (10) is tightened around the pipes, the sealing compound presses the sections of the profile adjacent to the dovetail grooves tightly against the pipes and a good seal is achieved, even if the surfaces of the pipes are uneven. If the one flanged long edge (22) of the metal plate wrap (21) has a greater height than the profile and engages with a groove in the one pipe, the seal can easily remain permanently engaged with this pipe while the other pipe can move in the seal.<IMAGE>
