PURPOSE:To easily obtain the titled single polarized wave optical fiber having an excellent polarized plane maintaining characteristic by forming a glass layer for a clad on the outer periphery of a glass rod for a core wherein three almost circular parts stand in a line and wiredrawing under heating. CONSTITUTION:Glass rods 1a, 1a, etc., are inserted into a heating furnace 4 while keeping the glass rods 1a, 1a, etc., which are brought into contact with each other in parallel in a line and wiredrawing is carried out. Consequently, the glass rod A for a core wherein three almost circular parts 1', 1', and 1' stand in a line is obtained. Then the glass layer for a clad is formed on the outer periphery of the glass rod A. Subsequently, the glass work consisting of the glass rod A for a core and the glass layer for a clad on the outer periphery is wiredrawn under heating and the desired fiber is obtained. |
