The method comprises a first phase enabling, on the nut 1, an annular projection to be obtained which forms a shoulder 4 with the body of the nut, a second phase intended for forming, in the sheet, a perforation having a shape corresponding to that of the annular projection, a third phase serving to place the nut in a given position with respect to the sheet, during the course of which phase the annular projection of the nut is inserted into the perforation and the shoulder comes into contact with one surface of the sheet and a fourth phase enabling at least one portion of the annular projection to be plastically deformed and projecting portions to be obtained from the actual material constituting this annular projection, so that the edges of the annular projection of the sheet are locked in place between these projecting portions and the shoulder. <IMAGE>
