The heat-recovery unit fits onto any stove, connected to a chimney, being formed of a section of sheet-metal folded so as to form an open rectangular box. Two opposite sides of the box are perforated so as to accommodate round or square-section metal tubes extending in the vertical direction. A vacuum is generated in the tubes as they are heated by the combustion gases flowing round the outside. - A metal sheet is placed against the tubes, causing the gas to flow round them in a zigzag pattern, after which a further sheet is used to close the sixth face of the box, this being removable, for maintanence purposes. Inlet and outlet connections are provided at front and rear, the outlet connection working in two slides so as to accommodate differences in levels.
