Clay mix for making baked tiles, bricks, etc., is comprised of 2-25 % expanded clay and 75-98 % plastic clay base material w.r.t. dry material content. - Pref. expanded clay comprises 65-80 % SiO2, 10-16 % aluminium oxide, +/- 3 % alkali metals and +/- 2 % alkaline earths. The expanded clay is pref. milled and sieved to a particle size such that no particles are greater than 4 mm and the fraction less than 50 microns is less than or equal to 30 %. The mix may also contain fly ash, slate, slip, etc. - The presence of the expanded clay prevents shrinkage and void and crack formation during baking. (Fl).(0/0)
