The invention relates to a recombinant DNA containing a thermostable alpha -amylase-encoding gene, characterised in that it comprises at least: - the thermostable alpha -amylase-encoding DNA fragment of a Bacillus licheniformis strain, and - a DNA fragment from a plasmid or from a lambda phage derivative which can replicate inside B. subtilis.
