In a method for increasing the drapability of a fabric esp. one not contg. cellulose, the dry fabric is fed to a venturi nip between hard and soft surfaces. The compliant surface is stretched before the nip and allowed to contract after the nip. - The crimping effect is at least 15%. The hard roller is heated. The other one has elastic and plastic properties and, e.g., is of rubber. The process can also turn a rough surface into a soft, smooth one. By flexing the fabric the fabric stiffness is reduced. The bond between the fibres and the binder is partially broken up. |
