PURPOSE:To obtain a head having high workability and causing little embrittlement after heat treatment and very little wear due to the high-speed sliding of a magnetic recording medium by forming thin films of an amorphous magnetic alloy contg. Co, Zr, Ru, specified transition metallic elements, etc. on substrates by vapor phase deposition. CONSTITUTION:Thin films 3, 3' of an amorphous magnetic alloy having 0.1- 100mum thickness are formed on substrates 2, 2' by sputtering to obtain semi- bodies 1, 1' for a core. The alloy is represented by the formula (where T is Co or a combination of Co with one or more kinds of transition metallic elements other than Co, Zr, Ru and the VB group elements, X is Zr or a combination of Zr with one or more kinds of other vitrifying elements such as B and Si, M is one or more kinds of VB group elements, x+y+z+w=100atomic%, y=5-30%, z<=8%, and w<=10%). The bodies 1, 1' are placed opposite to each other with a gap material 40 in-between, a coil 8 is wound around the bodies 1, 1', and a protective body 5 made of the same material as the substrate 2 is attached to obtain a magnetic head. The head has high workability and causes no embrittlement by heat treatment after forming the films, 3, 3'. |
