PURPOSE:To surely prevent leak, taking advantage of teamwork by two rows of line pressure without damaging the mating surface, by constituting the line pressure along two sealing lines formed by a bead in such a manner that the line pressure at the high pressure side is larger than that at the low pressure side. CONSTITUTION:When a metal gasket inserted into a mating layer between a cylinder head 10 and a cylinder block 12 is compressed, a crest part (4a) of a bead 4 takes the form of a gentle curve. And line pressure by its sealing line acts upon cylinder head 10 side, while both end parts 4b-1 and 4b-2 of the bead 4 applies line pressure along each seal line onto cylinder block 12 side. Since the line pressure at the high pressure base end part 4b-1 is always higher than that at the low pressure base end part 4b-2, only the line pressure at 4b-1 together with that at the crest part 4a can usually prevent leakage sufficiently. Should the leak occur at 4b-1, since the quantity of leakage is small and the pressure of the leak is reduced by its expansion in a space 4b, the leakage can surely be prevented with even low pressure line along the low pressure base end part 4b-2. |
