PURPOSE:To attain to prolong the life of an EC timepiece, by controlling the application of the pulse to an EC desplay device corresponding to the presence or absence of the detection of external light. CONSTITUTION:A write pulse for performing display with respect to an electrochromic display device 18 on the basis of the outputs of counter means 6, 8, 10 each counting a time and an erasing pulse for erasing the display are supplied from a driver 16. In addition, externally manipulable light switch 20 is manipulated to illuminate the display device 18 by a lamp 26. On the other hand, a light detection circuit 28 outputs an ON-signal and an OFF-signal corresponding to the presence or absence of external light and, when the switch 20 is manipulated during the output period of this ON-signal, the output pulse of the means 16 is supplied to the display device 18 by the output of a control circuit 32. In this case, during the output period of the OFF-signal from the circuit 28, a pulse is not outputted from the means 16. |
