The invention relates to a flange for a flange connection which is integrally formed externally on one pipe on or near to the pipe end and, at the ends, has a circumferential holder for an elastic sealing means, and can rest subject to pretensioning of the sealing means against an opposing flange which is constructed on the ends and is at least approximately identical, it being possible to press the flanges against one another by attachment means. In the case of flange connections consisting of two such flanges, it has been found to be difficult to achieve a reliable seal, since production tolerances or slight axial inaccuracies in the connecting region resulting from the stiffness of the flanges exacerbated the problem of loading the sealing means uniformly circumferentially. This is prevented according to the invention in that the end side of the flange has a circumferential recess at a distance radially inside the holder, which recess forms a desired bending point with a reduced wall thickness in the transition region from the pipe wall to the flange. This desired bending point permits uniform loading of the sealing means and a perfect seal.
