CONSTRUCTION OF ELECTROLYTIC CELL

PURPOSE:To enable a stable operation on a low electrolytic voltage in a horizontal type ion electrolytic cell using an ion exchange membrane by forming the space between a cathode chamber and a catholyte support port as well as a discharging port into the construction which avoids disturbing the flow line of a gas-liquid mixture. CONSTITUTION:An electrolytic cell is divided to an anode chamber 1 and a cathode chamber 2 by means of a cation exchange membrane 3, and an anode 6 and a cathode 7 are provided respectively therein. The membrane 3 is extended horizontally by the flange part of a membrane mounting rib 11 extended to the side wall 5 of the chamber 1 and the flange parts in a cap part 12 for a catholyte supplying port and a cap part 13 for a discharging port and is made flush with the respective planes in the part 12 and the part 13 so as to maintain the flow of the liquid without disturbance. A bottom plate 9 for the catholyte supplying part and a bottom plate 10 for the discharging port are made to have the same shape as the shape of the cathode 7. The presence of any obstruction in the passage for liquid-gas flow in the chamber 2 is eliminated and the increase in the pressure drop acting on the catholyte and the pulsation of the catholyte are prevented.
