<p>Flat flexible articles (4) such as fabric, fleece, leather, fur, are printed with pasty material applied to a print roll cooperating with a counter-roll to form a print gap for passage of the articles. A yarn group runs through the gap around a part of the print roll periphery, but at a different speed from the print roll, the yarns of the group being spaced apart along the length of the print roll. The yarn group controls entry of the flat articles into the print gap between the rolls, and from the gap onto a discharge conveyor, and printing paste consumption is reduced.
