The process is intended for high-pressure cleaning an upright cylindrical evaporator vessel (1), particularly as used for treating leakage water in a nuclear power plant, whereby the vessel contains horizontal perforated partitions defining an upper space with water inlet and closable access, at least 1 intermediate space with closable port, and a lower space with steam outlet, bottom drain outlet, and closable port. - The spaces are cleaned in that sequence, each time removing the cover from the respective access or port and replacing this with a mounting flange for a high-pressure lance. For the upper and lower spaces, the lance carries a spray head rotatable about the lance axis and laterally provided with revolving jet nozzles, rotation of head and nozzles resulting from spray water feed at 35-50 MPa, preferably 40MPa. - For the or each intermediate space, the lance carries a fixed head with jet orifices in different directions, spray water being fed at 50-70 MPa, preferably 60 MPa. During each cleaning step, the liquid collecting at the bottom is drained via the outlet. - Used for cleanining evaporator vessel for leak water in nuclear power plant contg. radioactive particles. The operation is controlled from outside the vessel and provides effective and rapid cleaning with minimum radioactive exposure of the operator. The equipment disclosed permits operation in the usually confined space available around the vessel.(0/6)
