1,153,482. Chloronitrobenzenes; bromonitrobenzenes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 27 Feb., 1967 [30 March, 1966], No. 14082/66. Heading C2C. In a continuous process for the preparation of a mixture of o- and p-nitrochlorobenzenes, o- and/or p-iodochlorobenzene is converted to a bis-chlorophenyl iodonium salt (containing at least 1 p-Cl atom), the iodonium cation is decomposed in aq. medium with nitrite anion, the iodochlorobenzene fraction is separated and recycled, and the nitrochlorobenzenes isolated. In a modification, the process is conducted using the bromo-analogues of the aforementioned chloro-compounds. The Specification states that anions other than nitrite may be used to give corresponding compounds other than nitro, but no exemplification of this aspect of the invention is provided.
|
