A heated jaw (11) for pack- sealing and/or pack-cutting has an elongate channel (16) in its pack- contacting surface (15). A sheet or sheets (22) of silicone rubber or other heat-resistant resiliently deformable material extends across the surface (15) between clamps (19 and 21) and an anvil or knife strip (23) which fits in the channel (16). The sheet (22) may either be clamped by the strip (23) or may run loosely between it and the walls of the channel. In the embodiment of Fig. (3) there is a single sheet (22) held at both clamps (19 and 21) and beneath the anvil or knife strip (23). The jaw described has good heat transfer properties since the sheet (22) deforms to accommodate the web of the pack. It is also easier to change sheets when they wear out and thereby softer material may be used to give even better properties. <IMAGE> |
