PURPOSE:To perform efficient and inexpensive plastic working of a pipe-shaped work piece by applying a liquid pressure on the work piece via a shape memory alloy as a pressure transmission element. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical assembly is constituted of two sheets of discs 1, the space between which is maintained by means of a stay bolt 2, and a pipe- shaped element 3 consisting of a shape memory alloy attached on the side face thereof. A work piece 4 is sandwiched between the assembly and a metal 5 having a circular hole and both ends of the element 3 are tightened by means of halved retainers 6. A liquid is filled in the assembly and a pressure is applied thereon to deform largely the element 3 by the pressure, thereby pressing the work piece 4 to the metal 5. The work piece 4 is thus plastically deformed or is subjected to working such as embossing on the surface thereof. The element 3 is largely deformed in this stage but if the liquid pressure is released, the original shape is restored. |
