Apparatus for forming rods with a plurality of bends comprises a plurality of bending assemblies each including a retractable spindle around which the rods are bent. A plurality of rods 9 to be bent are supported side by side on spindles 8 of bending assemblies 3 suitably positioned along a beam 2 by hand actuated means (11), (12), Figs. 3, 6B (not shown), on each assembly. Bending rollers 7 on crank arms 76 bend the rods around the associated spindles 8 in succession from the outer to the inner assemblies, each spindle 8 being retracted out of the path of the bent rods after the bending associated with that particular spindle has been effected. The bending assemblies are driven from a common shaft 4, each through a bush 43 keyed to the shaft 4, the cranks 76 being rotated through ratchet-operated rack means and the spindle 8 being withdrawn by cam-operated means. |
