The coating device comprises a rolling doctoring rod (2) which is held in a doctoring bed (3) of elastic material and corporates with an opposite roller (1), the doctoring bed (3) being held at one end of an elastic, strip-like carrying element which is clamped tightly at its other end. In this arrangement, the doctoring bed is pressed with the doctoring rod against the opposite roller (1) or the web (10) of the material by means of a pressure element and a leaf spring which forms the strip-like carrying element. As a result, very fine adjustment of the doctoring profile on the web of material is possible, in particular if the pressure piece is of relatively easily deformable and elastic construction in the direction of force of the leaf spring. The deformation of the pressure piece is brought about here by tension-compression screws. <IMAGE>
