An expanding dowel has a dowel bolt (1) which has an expanding cone (2) on one of its ends and an expandable dowel sleeve (6) surrounding the dowel bolt. In order to be able to connect the assembly bodies to one another before the expanding dowel is inserted into a drilled hole, an assembly body (4) on the dowel bolt is attached to an attachment point (3) which is wider than the diameter of the dowel bolt. A space intended for the engagement of a tool (8) is provided between the attachment point and the dowel sleeve (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
