New compounds having the formula wherein the dotted line is an optional double bond. These compounds are useful as cardiovascular agents. They are also useful as intermediates in the preparation of compounds of the formula wherein R is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R2 is -CHO, -CH2OH or -CH=CH-R3-lower alkylene-CH3; R3 is keto or hydroxymethyl; and the dotted line is an optional double bond, which are themselves useful as cardiovascular agents.
