The invention provides a generally practicable data control and information system 30-64 which is particularly suited for radio communication between several units 60-64 giving a reliable improvement in comparison to normal speech systems. The system contains addressing capability (Figure 2, bits 0-15), together with data transfer (Figure 3) and utilizes reciprocal approval and retransmission protocol to improve flexibility and reliability. The system uses signal packets of fixed length, (Figure 2), with error correction coding, in order to permit data transfer, sender identification and control and status monitoring. <IMAGE>
