A stop valve is specified, in particular for compressed-air brake systems, with a valve housing and a control piston guided therein which divides the valve housing into two valve chambers, in which stop valve, in order to advantageously realise a one-way valve with a non-return valve function between the valve chambers, the control piston has an annular groove, encircling in the outer wall roughly in the cross-sectional plane, in which there is an O-ring bearing in a sealing manner against the inner wall of the valve housing. Arranged at the root of the annular groove are transverse grooves which run transversely to its longitudinal axes and are connected to one of the two valve chambers. When air is admitted to one valve chamber, the compressed air flowing via the transverse grooves to the O-ring presses the latter against the sealing shoulder of the control piston and seals off the passage of compressed air. When air is admitted to the other valve chamber, the O-ring is pushed away from the sealing shoulder of the control piston, and the passage of air via the transverse grooves to the first valve chamber is cleared. <IMAGE>
