PURPOSE:To efficiently orient cut chips of lumber for a particle board or the like, by providing an inclined plate having recesses and protrusions extending parallel with the direction of the inclination of the plate, between conveyors installed below a delivery position for the chips, and by vibrating the plate. CONSTITUTION:A prescribed quantity of cut lumber chips 1 are delivered from a conveyor 2 to the inlet port of a plate 5 to which prescribed oscillation is imparted by a vibrator. Since the plate 5 has recesses and protrusions 10 continuously juxtaposed in the direction of the width of the plate perpendicular to the direction of its inclination, the chips 1 are dispersedly dropped onto the recesses 10A of the plate. The chips 1 are vibrated by the plate 5 so that the chips are oriented in the direction of vibratory conveyance on the plate. When the tip of the chip 1 is dropped into the recess 10A as the chip is not oriented in the proper direction, the chip receives a vibrational action which makes the chip parallel the recess. When the tip of the chip 1 has come into contact with the protrusion 10B under the vibration, the chip receives the reaction of the protrusion, which moves the chip in the direction of the inclination of the plate 5 under the vibration to orient the chip. |
