Open-cell ethylenic ionomer foam product is preapred by means of extrusion of fluid gel composed of ethylenic ionomer (A) and foaming agent. A is cross-linked with metal ion under higher temperature and pressure than ambient conditions, and its polyethylene composition is 85-98.5 mole % with initiation temperature of crystallization (T≦̸C) described as formula (I); where A=ethylene mole % of ionomer. More desirable A is copolymer of α,β-ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid and ethylene. The product is highly porous, very stable against water, chemical or ultraviolet light, and very flexible.
