PURPOSE:To improve the quality and yield rate of steel, by detecting the level of slag and a slag-forming condition using a microwave slag level meter, and maintaining these values under standard conditions. CONSTITUTION:Microwaves are projected from a microwave generator 20 to the surface of slag in a converter furnace 1. The microwaves reflected from the surface of slag are received by an antenna 5 constituting a microwave slag level meter, and th frequency of mixed waves comprising projected and reflected waves and/or the reflection ratio of the microwaves on the surface of slag is calculated. Thereafter, the level of slag and a slag-forming condition is detected on the basis of said calculated values. By controlling elements having effects on these values, the level of slag and the slag-forming condition are maintained under predetermined standard conditions. Thus, the quality and the yield rate of steel are improved. |
