CARBAPENEM COMPOUNDS AND THEIR PRODUCTION

Novel carbapenem compounds of the formula (I): (I) wherein R is -SO3H or hydrogen, and physiologically acceptable salts thereof, and disclosed which are useful as bactericides or disinfectants, and which also produce a synergistic effect with penicillin and/or cephalosporin antibiotic agents. The compounds of formula (I) can be produced by reducing a compound of the formula: wherein R is as defined above, or a salt thereof.
