Belt conveyor, especially for assembly lines used in industrial production, having at least one conveyor belt (40) and workpiece supports (50) which rest on the conveyor belt (40) and are carried along by friction grip. The workpiece supports (50) are made of a material displaying an electrical surface resistance (ROA) of no more than 10<7> Ohms and is in constant contact with earthed charge eliminators. The earthing cable preferably passes over the conveyor belt (40) and over a belt guidance profile (30) if one is available, both of which are also, according to the invention, made of a material with an electrical surface resistance (ROA) of no more than 10<7>. Electrostatic loading of the workpiece carriers (50) is thereby avoided using simple means. <IMAGE>
