1286074 Building element A A WELLS 11 Sept 1969 [19 Sept 1968] 44674/68 Heading E1W A plank-like building element for use in building structures as a load bearing or cladding member comprises a seamless outer shell 9 of fibre-filled cementitious material, the shell being formed on and containing insulating material 8 and having two opposed substantially planar or only slightly curved principal surfaces connected together along the edges of the plank by portions formed one with a groove 11 and the other with a tongue, or a groove 11 to receive a separate tongue (12, Fig. 3, not shown) for the purpose of interlocking connection between juxtaposed similar planks. The groove may be of undercut, keyhole shape to receive a separate tongue of complementary cross section. The fibre filling material may be formed of E borosilate glass, zirconium glass or chrysotile asbestos. The cementitious material may be a portland cement, a gypsum hemi-hydrate or a high alumina cement. The insulating material may be expanded polystyrene, foamed phenolformaldehyde or foamed rigid polyurethane. One or both principal surfaces may be covered with veneer or laminate. An exposed surface may be provided with a reflective metallised coating such as aluminium foil. The elements may be formed with bends or twists according to their intended use in a building.
