PURPOSE:To attain assuredly both a character reading function and an image processing function with a simple device, by switching and lighting up light sources of different spectral characteristics to irradiate a pattern and giving a photoelectric conversion to the reflected light to perform reading. CONSTITUTION:A lighting switch device 2 is driven by a control signal S of a CPU 8, and light sources 1a-1c of different spectral characteristics provided at a light source part 1 are switched to desired ones to irradiate a forms 3. The reflected light of the forms 3 is amplified 5 after photoelectrically converted 4. The amplification factor is varied by the signal S in response to the type of the using light source. When the output of the amplifier 5 contains no output of a drop-out color, a character reading part 6 works to send the character data to the CPU 8. If the output of the amplifier 5 is equal to a data corresponding to the visible light, almost all colors are detected and processed at an image processing part 7. Then the data is sent to the CPU 8. As a result, it is easy to have a reading switch between a character and an image. This is suitably applied to read a map or a seal. |
