PURPOSE:To reduce the space required by a tool holder by arranging the device body and a holder so that their parts of engagement become as short as possible in the axial direction, wherein the holder is to support a machining tool rotatably. CONSTITUTION:When a main shaft 102 is rotated to cause rotation of a spindle 136, a tool holder 134 will rotate to allow a cutter 156 to rotate round the axis of the main shaft 102. At the time of tool replacement, pressure oil is supplied to the passage so as to press a coupling member 76. If then a holder 106 is moved, an inclined surface 120 of a boss 118 comes in contact with balls 85a-f, which are pressed outward in the radial direction of said coupling member 76. Therefore, the balls 85a-f separate from a hole 78 in the coupling member 76 to be pressed to the interior surfaces of a spindle head 56 bordering a circumferential groove 62, which causes said boss 118 to separate from the hole 78, and now the holder 106 is removed from the device 52.
