Such a machine is equipped with a tool electrode (1) and with a workpiece electrode (2), between which pulses from a voltage source (3) are applied via a controlled switching element (T1). The electrodes (1, 2) are moved apart by a control signal. The setting for the working zone of the machine comprises a sequential-operation device (8, D1, R4, C1, C2, T2, T4) for converting the attenuation-duration values of the discharges into voltage values, which stores these values solely from one discharge to the following discharge, and a sequential-operation device (10, 11, T5, T6, D2, C3) for measuring the value of the voltage during the current pulse and for storing solely from one discharge to the following discharge, the outputs of these devices being connected via an adder (12) to a circuit (13) for regulating the control signal. The setting ensures great stability of the working zone at all operational speeds and ensures high productivity. <IMAGE>
