To produce an improved medicine for coughs and other disorders of the respiratory organs of horses, as well as feedstuffs for horses produced using the same, the invention envisages the use of Cetraria islandica (Iceland moss lichen) and/or Lichen islandicus (reindeer lichen) as plant active ingredients. Where the medicine also contains other plant active ingredients, Cetraria islandica and/or Lichen islandicus represent the principal active constituents thereof. Furthermore envisaged according to the invention is a feedstuff for horses which contains the medicine as component.
