A grave surround for walking on consists of transverse planks (1, 2) along the grave transverse edges (7, 8) and of longitudinal grates (3, 4) between them, which are mounted so as to be able to pivot from a walk-on position to a covering position in which they close the grave opening. The longitudinal grates can be locked to the transverse planks by a locking mechanism which is operative in the walk-on position and covering position of the longitudinal grates and can be released only in an intermediate position of the longitudinal grates. <IMAGE>
