PURPOSE:To suppress curling until it is ignored paractically, by forming a metallic thin film of Co-Cr alloy by sputtering while a base made of a polyimide film is tensed to <= about 2kg/mm.<2> tension. CONSTITUTION:The permissible range of the curling of a magnetic tape in a normal use state is about <=+ or -0.5%. The graph of the experimental result of sputtering on the condition of 0-3.5kg tension to the base 1 shows that the value of tension during the sputtering is suitably <= about 2kg/mm.<2>. Further, when the tape tension is 0-8kg/mm.<2>, curling having the same elongation and contraction lengthwise and breadthwise occurs, but the elongation percentage of the tape is small. On the other hand, the tension is 0.8-2kg/mm.<2>, the elongation percentage of the tape is large, but curling occurs in the opposite directions lengthwise and breadthwise, canceling the curling. Consequently, the curling of the magnetic recording medium is reduced until the medium is used practically. |
