PURPOSE:To enable to accurately discriminate an abnormality, by stopping an abnormality-discriminating operation in a period wherein abnormality in a spill- controlling system and a timer-controlling system can not be discriminated accurately because of a lowering in a fluidity of a fuel. CONSTITUTION:In a step 92, it is discriminated whether or not the fuel temperature T in he fuel injection device is higher than a predetermined value, for example, 0 deg.C. When T>0 deg.C, a step 93 is performed, and when T<=0 deg.C, the subsequent abnormality-discriminating operation is stopped. Namely, the abnormality-discriminating operation is not performed when the fluidity of the fuel is so low that abnormality in a spill position and a timer position can not be accurately discriminated. Instead of directly detecting the fuel temperature T in the fuel injection device, the temperature of engine-cooling water may be detected by a water temperature sensor and compared with a predetermined value. |
