Stilbene brightener solutions that are stable to metal ions and metal catalysts and comprise a sulpho-substituted stilbene brightener and a fatty amine alkoxylation product of the formula <IMAGE> where Q is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of 12 to 22 carbon atoms, M is hydrogen or an alkali metal, ammonium or amine salt ion, and m and n are each integers, subject to the proviso that m + n is at least 2 and not more than 50, are used for optically brightening natural and synthetic fibre materials. |
