Two meshing gears (24, 26) are mounted in a housing (10) and each of them is assigned a separate motor (40 and 42 respectively). The two motors (40, 42) are flanged to two opposite sides of the housing (10) and connected to the associated gear (24 and 26 respectively) by a respective clutch (36 and 38 respectively). Each of the two gears (24, 26) thus draws the required driving power from the associated motor (40 and 42 respectively); relatively low differential powers, if any, are transmitted between the two gears. The teeth of the gears (24, 26) are thus loaded essentially only by forces and torques caused by the pressure difference between the inlet (12) and the outlet (14) of the gear pump. <IMAGE>
