PURPOSE:To check the transport state of a transport path and the paper separating function arbitrarily and easily in a paper feeder having two or more paper feed portions by disposing a multi-feed detecting portion at back of the junction of paper feed paths extended from respective paper feed portions. CONSTITUTION:In a laser beam recording apparatus having paper feed portions 54, 53 at the upper and lower portions, paper sheets 51, 31 in the paper feed portions 54, 53 are respectively taken out sheet by sheet by the rotation of paper feed rollers 52, 32, and fed to register rollers 33 through paper feed guides 56, 55. The multi-feed state of the paper sheet fed out from the register roller 33 to pass through transport guides is judged from the quantity of transmission light detected by a pair of photo sensors 34, 47. When the multi-feed state is detected, a paper discharge switching plate 44 is shifted to a broken line position to collect the multi-fed paper sheets in a tray 46. The paper feed rollers 52, 53 can be controlled to form the multi-feed state and drive simultaneously in deciding the maximum light transmission quantity at the time of multi-feeding. |
