PURPOSE:To improve the reliability and to prevent the titled device from being affected by temperature and time aging, by correcting the write and readout position of a data track based on positioning information from a servo track. CONSTITUTION:A position of a servo track 10 is operated with a head 2 prior to the positoning of a data track to apply correction to position information of data tracks 7,8... preset in a positioning mechanism 3. In reading out, e.g., the data track 8, when the position of the servo track 10 is set to (x) and the position of the data track 8 is set to as (y) in the positioning mechanism 3, the position of the servo track 10 is read before reading the data track 8 and when the position is shifted to the set value by + or -DELTAx, the correction of y + or -DELTAx is done in positioning the (y). Thus, the accurate positioning is attained without deviation of the relative relation between the head 2 and a tape 1. |
