Separation of the metal content of the laden organic cation exchanger, with simultaneous regeneration of the cation exchanger, takes place in the regeneration. To obtain the metal content in the form of easily filterable oxides and to obtain the organic phase in reusable form without decomposition, the metal-laden organic cation exchanger is treated with an aqueous solution of an alkane monocarboxylic acid; the resulting organic phase, which consists of the organic cation exchanger in organic solution, is separated from the aqueous phase, which contains the metal in the form of a salt of the carboxylic acid; the metal is split off from the aqueous phase at elevated temperature in the form of metal oxide and the aqueous solution of the carboxylic acid is thereby recovered; the metal oxide is separated from the aqueous solution of the carboxylic acid, and the aqueous solution of the carboxylic acid is returned for treatment of the metal-laden organic cation exchanger.
|
