The heat exchanger consists of a plurality of internal tubes (1) for one medium, which are surrounded moving in the same sense by an enclosing tube (2) for the other medium. This tube bundle (1, 2) is formed in a helical fashion with a constant curvature to produce a cylindrical coil. The enclosing tube (2) is welded at both ends to a perforated plate via an expanded length of tube with lateral connections. The internal tubes (1) open out through the plate perforations into a connecting piece welded firmly to the plate. Thanks to a large tube length and an ideal countercurrent in the compact coil, it is possible to achieve a high heat-exchange efficiency by means of a single passage. This heat exchanger is suitable for prewarming, heating or cooling product media in the countercurrent using pressurised water or heat exchange oil, or else for generating or converting steam. <IMAGE>
