PURPOSE:To prevent a floating coming into critical contact with a disk by providing a seeking action starting point setting circuit which outputs a signal to shift the on-track starting point by of the seeking action in which the floating head moves radially prescribed position at every seeking action. CONSTITUTION:A track number setting circuit 7 sets the number of tracks between two shifting trucks at the starting time of the seeking. A seeking action control circuit 8 executes the seeking action to move a magnetic head 3 to the target track. A track number counting circuit 9 counts the number of tracks that the head 3 passes during the seeking action. An index detecting output 10 sets the starting timing of the seeking action by using an index signal on the track detected by the head 3. The seeking action starting point setting circuit 12 re-sets the seeking action starting point at every seeking action based on an index signal from the circuit 10.
