PURPOSE:The titled remedy, containing esterase as an active constituent, and capable of reducing the proteinic urea and blood serumal uric nitrogen. CONSTITUTION:A remedy for diabetic nephritis containing esterase (molecular weight: 25,900; isoelectric point: 9.5+ or -0.5pH; sedimentation coefficient S20:2.6w) as an active constituent. The dose thereof is 5,000-20,000 EL.U. (esterase units), and the continuous administration for 4-20 weeks is preferred. The esterase is an enzyme capable of specifically decomposing a water-insoluble scleroprotein elastin and industrially prepared by extracting a pig pancreas as a raw material. The esterase has the beta-lipoproteinase activity and lipoprotein lipase activity in the physiological activity and an activity of normalizing the lipid metabolic disorder in the blood serum or tissue, is usable for improving the lipid metabolic disorder caused by the hyperlipemia or arterisclerosis and further acts on the individual arterial wall to promote the maintenance of the elasticity and extensibility thereof.
