<p>PURPOSE:To transfer data at a high speed and with no increase of the gap length of a magnetic tape, by changing in plural steps the tape traveling speed at a gap in a streaming mode time. CONSTITUTION:A processor containing a gap speed register 21 delivers a command in a streaming mode time to set and select the gap speed in plural steps. Thus the contents are stored in the register 21, and control is left to an MT controlling part 12. The part 12 changes the braking quantity in response to the step of the gap speed and then controls the average speed to pass through the gap. This device enables a high-speed transfer of data with no increase of the gap length of a magnetic tape.</p> |
