The invention relates to a container for transferring and/or storing radioactive substances, in particular spent fuel elements. The container has a container casing (1), which surrounds a receiving chamber (2) and is provided with a device for removing the heat given off by the radioactive substances. The container casing (1) is penetrated both in the longitudinal direction and from radially inside to radially outside by heat conducting channels (9 or 14), which extend longitudinally and transversely, respectively, and are arranged distributed over the circumference in the region of the inside of the casing or distributed over the circumference and the longitudinal direction of the container in the concrete of the casing (1), which essentially consists thereof. At least the transversely extending heat conducting channels (14) contain heat conducting elements (15) made from material which is an effective conductor of heat. <IMAGE>
