Cloth-laying machine having a laying carriage which travels to and fro along a table and on which is arranged a cutting unit which is guided displaceably on the laying carriage transversely to the longitudinal direction of the table and by means of which a cloth web can be cut off. So that it is possible to cut in both directions of travel of the cutting unit and to do without a knife disc which repeatedly has to be resharpened, the cutting unit possesses a slide having a web which is supported on the laying carriage on both sides of which web pinching rollers are rotatably mounted on the slide and are pressed against a bearing face for the cloth web on the laying carriage.
